We were walking back home from Red Hook one afternoon this winter when we came upon this store–a fantastic collection of nostalgia and found objects–at the end of Atlantic Avenue.
We went back this weekend to take some photos to share. We got to talking with Zak who, along with his wife, Gillette, opened Holler & Squall after working at Housing Works, a not-for-profit in New York.
I think the collection of whistles (above) is awesome. Ashley was crazy about the old map that notes the annex-dates of U.S. territories. Zak also does custom tables and shelving, like the ones below, using reclaimed wood and industrial hardware. It sounds like his wait-list is already growing.
I knew we had stumbled upon something special.
