On Halloween, Aron and I visited a very pretty, new-to-the-scene macaron shop on the Lower East Side for some grown-up treats. Aron chose the salted caramel, which while not exactly classic, was absolutely delicious. I try pistachio every time; it’s my benchmark flavor for both gelato and macarons. Verdict? Excellent–but the salted caramel was so buttery, it was hard not to be distracted (it was the standout confection, of the two).
I’ve heard that macarons are very difficult to get right, but I’ve never tried making my own. Have any of you ever tried? There’s a very sweet book by Hisako Ogita with beautifully illustrated step-by-step instructions; maybe I’ll give it a go soon.
Have a delicious weekend!
