We wrapped up the celebrations of Skyler’s first year, yesterday, with friends and family over lunch. I decided to stick with the star theme that emerged when Eva made her birth announcements: “we love her more than all the stars.” It has seemed fitting, given her name.
I may have gone a little crazy with the photo paraphanalia, but once I had selected all of the photos for Skyler’s photo book I couldn’t help but add some items to the cart. I just love the bottle labels!
The wall decals are easily removable, so I even put them over the television. And I’m going to remove the ones of her monthly photos and repurpose them in an album.
For other decorations, my main sources were Etsy, Michael’s, Target, and Food52. I cut out letter to spell “happy birthday” the mantle, and arranged flowers from Costco.
Her grandparents were kind enough to have Hudson over the day before and friends took him for a playdate the morning of so that we could bake quiches and cakes, make decorations, and… rearrange furniture. California needs the rain, so I shouldn’t complain, but a wet forecast sent us scrambling a bit! We had just over 20 adults and nearly 20 kids (half babies, half preschoolers), so we cleared the floor (literally) and invited someone over to sing and entertain the kids. It turned out to be a lot of fun!
We also moved our coffee table into Hudson’s room and set up a magna-tiles station.
We tried to line up all the babies, but it was worse than herding cats…
so we tried this instead. Most of these friends are pictured here, pregnant at my shower!
When it came time to blow out the candle, Skyler was a bit mesmerized (though I think she enjoyed the singing) and Hudson was eager to step in and help. And then while the other kids raced off for their helpings, Skyler very slowly examined and tasted hers.
I hope when he blew out the candle, Hudson wished her a happy and healthy year two… and beyond.
