A very special thing happened in the city on a recent weekend: they closed down Lafayette and Park Avenues to all car traffic, from the Brooklyn Bridge up to the 80s. Naturally, we had to take advantage. To our surprise, there were more bikers than walkers and, unlike last year, there were multiple stands set up along the way. Some vendors were giving out snacks or coffree, and there was even one who was giving free rental bikes or free rollerblades. We felt compelled to walk the whole thing, so starting in the south we headed up north. The highlight was definitely walking around Grand Central Station and under the Helmsley Building. After getting up into the 80s, where the cars were allowed back onto the road, we veared off to the park. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing in the park and looking for new glasses for me (!).
