Tarzan’s swimming hole

Last week, I was in Chicago for a meeting. While I didn’t have much time to tour the city, I did make sure to pick up some of my favorite caramel corn at Garrett’s Popcorn–I could smell the buttery caramel from two blocks away.

I also made it a priority to get some exercise in the hotel’s pool. The Intercontinental was originally designed by Ahlschlager in 1926 for the Shriners. Before it was the Intercontinental hotel, it had a previous life as the Medinah Athletic Club–and boasts that Johnny Weissmuller (gold medal swimmer/Tarzan) used to train in its pool. Most of the hotel has been redone since then, but its exterior still bears some great deco touches (apparently the Zeppelin used to doc at is peak), and the pool remains relatively unchanged.

It was fun to be in Chicago again, though I have to admit it was great to come home to Ashley!  Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!
