Decorative Gourd Season (& Friday Links)

Happy first day of autumn! (aka “MotherF**king Decorative Gourd Season“!)

This weekend will be a quiet one—mostly. I’m looking forward to celebrating a friend’s birthday party, but otherwise we’ve got some house projects in mind. But we’ve started plotting trips up to Apple Hill for cider donuts, and grabbing root vegetables for batches of baked chips. Also on the fall-food front, want to make some fresh pretzels in honor of Oktoberfest, bake up the (best, most satisfying) cheater-pumpkin dessert, and mix up this shaved brussels sprouts salad, all pictured below. What are you looking forward to?

Some links of note…

The best fall foliage calendar map.

I remember when this tour ran in Martha Stewart. Still one of my favorites.

Looking for a baby journal? Love the simplicity of this Moleskin one.

I’m intrigued by this new sled design. Has anyone tried one with his or her kids?

Just listened to the first episode of Circle Round, a new podcast for kids. So good! (via Design Mom)

Perhaps my favorite of Joanna’s beauty uniform series. Love her! Made me go and put on bolder lip color!

Thinking of ordering this long, linen tunic (via Say Yes), but this one and this one also look great! (Reminds me of Elizabeth Suzann’s designs.)

Goop‘s new magazine.

How to pop a pimple. (And my fix.)

“1962 was a big year. Modernist design hit its peak and moved into homes across the country. And in Minnesota, Target was born.” I’m hearing about this new Target collection all over, and with good reason. Lovely!

Hillary Clinton’s new children’s book, It Takes a Village, is out.

A way to wash your clothes on the go. (via Swiss Miss)

Cindy Crawford’s daughter’s first fashion week. Sixteen years old. (“Dude, I’m going to have a teenager one day.” Is all I can think.)

Which apps are the kids using these days?

We’ve been looking at summer flights, and I’m reminded how much I love the Google Flights’ search function.

How to help Mexico after two devastating earthquakes.

Have a great weekend!
