Happy Halloween Eve! We’ve been whipping up some last-minute costumes for the kids, but I think Aron and I might be a bit bo-humbug this year. The plan is to carve pumpkins and make pumpkin delight tonight. Then, tomorrow, we’ll visit grandparents’ houses for some scavenger-hunt-style trick-or-treating, scoot around town during a Davis zombie bike ride, and watch a not-too-spooky movie with friends. The kids are still so excited about the holiday, despite some of the missing elements. How about you? Any fun plans?
Sorry for missing last week’s digest—we took off early and hit the road for the Sonoma coast, having finally made arrangements to stay in Sea Ranch. I’d been hearing about the lovely stretch—with its architecturally distinct community—since college, and fall is usually a wonderful time for the beach in Northern California. The cooler temperatures onshore tend to mean less fog (or at least that’s my understanding of the why). We were grateful that there was some rain, however, during our stay—the nearby fires are still being contained and the extra humidity is really appreciated. I took this photo while there (and you can see others on Instagram).
This weekend we are sharing a sitter with our pod family and doing some local wine tasting. Aron’s birthday is coming up next week (as is his mom’s), so we’re looking forward to and making plans for those. And I just got new office shelves, so I’m trying to part with some books so that they might look as elegant as all of those inspo photos I pinned. What are you up to this weekend? Have a good one!
These news cycles… are they even cycles? Or just dots? I can’t keep up!
National stage aside, we’re watching another fire take its toll on surrounding communities in Napa and Sonoma and feeling its effects in the manner of more poor air. It’s hard to keep spirits up: mornings of zoom class are followed by afternoons and evenings inside, and I’m afraid even Cosmic Kids Yoga isn’t cutting it anymore. It reminds me of the earliest days of quarantine, only I’m not sure I have the same zeal for board games and puzzles right now. I read this about burnout and realized I have reached my surge capacity.
Still, I’m glad it’s the weekend! Aron will be home and maybe we’ll find a patch of good air on the map and try to drive there for a day trip. (Womp-womp.) Fingers crossed.
Okay, a little late but here are (many, many) links of note…
