Today I was downtown and there are blooms on all the trees—when did that happen? It made me realize that I spent far too much time on my computer this week and not enough time outside enjoying the shift toward spring. I’m so happy the sun is out, and I’m going to make myself get outside more next week to make up for it!
In other news, recently: Skyler turned nine on Sunday! She proudly rode her bike home all by herself a few days later and told me, “I’m nine now, after all.” Then, as if to keep me grounded, I discovered she’d poured my very precious Skinceuticals serum down the drain so she could have the bottle dropper. (AAAAHHHHH!)
We planned a summer trip—a cruise through the inner passage of Alaska to see the glaciers. And Aron and I had a date to see Jesus Christ Superstar—which they performed without intermission and now I wonder why more plays don’t run without one. It was so nice to just get settled once for 90 minutes and then we were out! And I’ve been watching Ginny & Georgia on Netflix on my own and I’m enjoying it. Anyone else? I like to have one “guilty-pleasure-show” going at any time (a la Virgin River or Younger) and this is definitely fitting the bill.
Any complaints I might have about this week feel awfully frivolous in light of what is happening in Syria and Turkey right now. The death toll is an unfathomable number (over 22,000), particularly for such a localized disaster. The Daily does a great job of reporting, if you are hoping to learn more. I just want to say that I am thinking of all the families who are missing loved ones and send wishes of comfort to anyone affected. From what I understand, shelter and warmth are the most immediate needs. Here are some ways to help.
More things of note lately…
Have you heard of the 12-3-30 treadmill workout? (I used to do this, though I didn’t know it had a name, all the time and need to get back to it!) All that computer time has not been good for my fitness.
Any podcasts you’re loving lately? I’ve been feeling a bit in a rut. Smartless still occasionally comes through—I loved the Bono interview.
I regularly enjoy True Story with Tig Notaro and Cheryl Hines, especially when the documentary they discuss is one I happened to just watch (like Dolly Parton!). I’m hoping they’ll discuss the Pamela Anderson one. I’m loving all these revisionist histories of ’90s celebrity culture.
Did you know that Willie Nelson is turning 90? And having a big 2-day concert in LA to celebrate? (We were thinking of trying to get tickets, but concert tickets are so insane these days. Apparently it’s a byproduct of streaming music vs buying tangible albums.)
I’ve been on the hunt for a great sweater lately. Something that will last me years, in navy or black with a funnel neck. I have a friend who, whenever I hug her, she is wearing the softest sweaters, so I asked her—she says she swears by Vince. I’m going to be looking for this one to try on. And then maybe on Poshmark.
Finally a 100 Best Books List I can say I’ve mostly read. (Some many times over!)
One woman’s history of unpaid labor in romantic relationships.
The seat filler at Jennifer Lopez’s and Ben Affleck’s table spills the tea. Very cute.
David Harbour is so charming in this house tour, like calling his designer “budget unconscious Billy Cotton.” (Although I preferred his bachelor-style, to be honest. The two are so different!) Both he and Lily Allen are delightful. Her closet!!
Cool kicks! May need to get these for Aron.
Loved this SNL clip.
The Super Bowl is coming up. Will you be watching? I’m thinking of making these again if we do.
Also coming up: Valentine’s Day! Here are some gift guides and kids’ card ideas from past years if you’re in need!
Wishing you a nice weekend!
