A friend of mine threw such a fun birthday party a few weeks back: she invited 20 friends over for a sit-down, get-your-hands-dirty, crawfish feed. Emarie happens to be in the business of weddings and events, so it’s not a surprise that she knows a bit about throwing a good dinner party (no pressure!), but this was her and her husband’s first time cooking crawfish for 20 people in their front yard. I asked her for some tips after the fact because I thought it was perfect!
It seems more often that I find myself looking for drinks that can be made both with alcohol and without. My favorite for warmer, longer days (which I realize might still seem far off for some) is a variation on the Pimm’s cup that I first had over brunch at Jo’s in New York. Theirs is a mix of muddled cucumber, strawberry, ginger ale, and Pimm’s No.1, but Seven-Up stands in nicely for the Pimm’s.
And I’ve posted about Jo’s before, but I can’t help but share some favorite photos I came across when searching out this cocktail. It’s worth checking out for brunch if you’re in Manhattan. I always loved the way the light looked in there on grey days. Good pancakes helped, too.

It’s been rainy here today. (The kind of day that sends me and the toddler to Ikea. Just for fun.) So I’m looking ahead (and luckily, here, that just means to next week) to summer sandals again. Have you been eyeing those Sweedish Hasbeens at Madewell? I love mine; they’re super-high and flattering, but super-pricey, too. P.S. Zappos sells the Hasbeens–with a slightly shorter heel–for less than Madewell. I hear the Natural color develops a nice patina with wear. And if you’re not quite ready for bare feet? Try these.
