Sure, the nearest theater showing Before Midnight is 48 miles away from Davis, but it’s only 35 miles to reach the heart of Capay Valley where one might find himself amongst Lavender or Sunflower crops this time of year.

Hudson wanted to touch all the bees, which was a bit disconcerting.

We brought home some wine from Capay Valley Vineyards, and listened in on the farmer’s tips for growing lavender at the Cache Creek Lavender farm (where you can pick your own during blooming season).

If you plan on visiting the area, I recommend packing a basic picnic that you can supplement with fresh-picked peaches or cherries from one of the farms just off the road. There are only a couple of restaurants to be found along the way.

P.S. Capay Valley’s Almond Blossom trail, at the peak of its February blooms.
