In My Suitcase: Weekend in Las Vegas

We just got home from our weekend in Las Vegas—and it was all I could have hoped for! Thank you for all of the birthday wishes! I had an amazing time celebrating.

I’ve been sharing photos on Instagram (check out the hashtag #goodlordyashleyaronare40 or look in the stories highlights), and have been getting some DMs asking for a packing list. (Thank you!) With only a few days’ worth of clothes to bring, that seemed like an easy thing to share…

I packed everything into a JCrew Ludlow garment-duffle bag. I bought this one as a gift for Aron a while back and he correctly guessed that I was wishing it were mine—so he’s let me take it over. It’s such a great weekender: you lay everything flat into the garment bag (shoes on the sides) and then, when you roll it up, you still have all the space of a regular duffle. If it had wheels, it would be perfect. The JCrew one seems to come in and out of stock, so here’s a similar one.

There would be three nights, all of which I planned to dress up for. I brought an Animal-print ruffled slipdress from Topshop; a hot pink lace dress with an open back (Rita Long-Sleeve Mini Dress) by Saylor that I found at Neiman Marcus (I couldn’t help but spin in it!); and a Polkadot pinafore dress (also in other prints) that also came from Topshop. It was pretty low cut in the front and on the sides, so I took it to a tailor and had some sheer panels sewn in on the sides. I packed some fashion tape for the front to keep it in place.

My girlfriends all looked amazing and you can see some group shots on Instagram.

I also packed two casual dresses—a black maxi dress from Anthropologie and a tiered sundress from Free Generation. Either could do double duty as a pool cover-up (or a going-out dress), but I wore these on the airplane and out to lunch.

It would be embarrassing to confess how many swimsuits I’ve bought this year. Between this and Italy, I went a bit overboard. These ones are well-priced, at least! The gingham check bikini came from & Other Stories (top/bottom)and the Scallop Bandeau (top/bottom)came from Target. I brought along a backup red one piece just in case.

For shoes, I was tempted to bring just two pairs—those fun red tassel ones and a pair of flat daytime sandals, but I brought along black and nude pairs by Sam Edelman, too. I ended up wearing the black ones with the polka dot dress.

For accessories, I brought a straw hat from H&M; sunglasses from Warby Parker; and my favorite clutch (can be crossbody, wristlet, or belt-bag) by Lo & Sons.

As for getting ready, I made an appointment at Drybar on the first afternoon and made it last with dry shampoo and hairspray. I like a U-shaped hair pin for an easy loose bun. I also got some of the new cream eyeshadows from Glossier and really liked using them.

A few things I packed and didn’t use? My favorite jacket for wearing over dresses—pretty sure this is the same one with an updated lining (didn’t use but should’ve brought when we went to see a show on our last night—the theatre was freezing!); my big DSLR camera; and my Kindle for poolside reading. A few things I wish I’d packed? Bandaids for lots of walking and dancing. The hotel sold them at hostage markup.

Anything I’m missing?

Thanks again!
