Lake Tahoe: scenes from last weekend

We drove up to Tahoe last weekend with friends and spent some time in Incline Village and Northstar. Sadly, this January is on track to be one the driest on record (after a promising December)—so most of the snow you see is man-made, limited to the ski resort. Still, there’s never a bad time to visit Lake Tahoe. It’s just so incredibly beautiful there.

My friend Emarie and I were both pregnant the last time our families went on a trip together, so it was fun to now see four little ones playing together. Well, the boys played together and the babes mostly played beside each other (but Skyler did sneak in some kisses).

Incline beach is a nice stop with a wide sandy stretch and a playground. Aron and I had ridden bikes to this spot when we stayed at the Hyatt, a while back.

I love how Skyler looks in those Molehill snow booties!

Hudson turned 3 1/2 on Saturday, so he got half a cake (an idea inspired by my friend Melissa’s half-birthday tradition).

We arranged for babysitters to come over and put the kids to bed one night while the four of us went out to dinner at the Hyatt. I love the classic lodge aesthetic of the Eagle’s Nest restaurant.

And we had the same idea as just about everyone else in the area when we headed to Northstar village on the way out of town. (It was packed!) We let the boys jump on these trampolines with  bands and harnesses and they were so thrilled. Hudson kept yelling “Wheeee” and “this is so fun!” He was even answering that to other parents who were trying to ask after their kids’ enjoyment: “I having fun, too!” Then we hopped in one of the free gondolas that heads up to The Ritz (where Aron and I had spent a weekend just before Skyler was born) for lunch. Unfortunately they weren’t validating parking because of the holiday weekend, but call ahead: you can usually park for free when you eat there. It’s a great ski-in/ski-out stop.

And even if you can’t get on the slopes, you have a pretty sweet view of those who did. (Here, Hudson is wondering why his pizza pie isn’t working. Ha!)

What are you up to this weekend? I’m starting to think about Skyler’s 1st birthday (right around the corner) and have been trying to organize photos of her for an album. We also have a babysitter arranged for a day-date (my favorite kind).

Have a good one!
