Fifth avenue in lights

The scene along Fifth avenue during the holidays can be admittedly insane. We made the mistake of trying to take in the newly unveiled store windows on the weekend following Thanksgiving, and regretted it after about half-a-block. We were ushered through the revolving door at Bergdorf’s by a sea of people–a scene right out of an old Charlie Chaplin gag!–and then quickly aborted the plan.
However, the Monday following, after dinner at a friend’s uptown, we had the cab drop us in front of the glowing Plaza hotel around 10:30 at night. With the sidewalks virtually free of people, we quickly forgot the chaos and instead recalled how much we love seeing the city’s famous avenue dressed up for the holidays–especially the windows at Bergdorf’s.

After we uploaded our photos, I saw that the new issue of Lonny has a feature on the holiday windows at Bergdorfs: you can see more images and read about how the displays are made here, beginning on page 48.
