Refresh

As we mentioned, we have been on the hunt for new fabric with which to re-cover the cushion of our chair in our apartment. We have loved the brown suede, but I wanted to brighten up the room a bit.

A little secret: in an ideal world, we would sew a proper cover for the cushion, but we don’t have a machine, nor the time to do it by hand. Instead, Aron brought home some expired surgical sutures (but any thick thread would work), pulled the fabric tight, and attached the fabric directly to the cushion. Actually, he had done the same thing for the brown cover years ago and it has worked out perfectly!

Next step: some new photographs for the wall…

Perpetual Produce

These beautiful block-printed produce calendars by Krank Press seem like such a great way to keep track of what’s in season–and to get inspired about eating seasonally and locally. We try to follow what’s turning up at the Greenmarket, but sometimes I worry I miss out on a short season.

The best bit? While the three images at top are specific to Southern California (June is a bit early for tomatoes out here), Krank makes regionally specific editions! New York may make an appearance in our kitchen soon.

Whales

Bryant Austin prints life-sized prints of these amazing creatures. That second photo is 20-feet wide! I would absolutely love to see this in person.
I vividly remember being in a small dive boat when I was living in Australia: two humpbacks came over to investigate us. The one slowly rolled to its side and we stared in each other’s eyes (or eye, in his case) before, with a flick of his tail, he dove. To be able to swim and photograph these creatures would be a dream come true.
