Holding on

A trip to the Greenmarket last weekend–another important first for this kiddo (on what was predicted to be his actual due date, but in fact was day 13)–brought out a mix of emotions. All of my favorite fruits and vegetables were out (tiny tri-state strawberries, blueberries, white corn, stone fruits, and the sweetest of sweet Sungold tomatoes… for example) and it just felt like such a perfect summer day, being out together. At the same time I realized that I had missed many of these items’ arrival, having been away for a few weeks, and the passage of time was all too palpable.
It’s already so with Hudson: we look forward to him growing and smiling (and sleeping through the night), but I can already see how it can all go too fast!
We’ve been eating tomato, corn, and basil salads on repeat ever since–practice for savoring the moment.

P.S. More family photos today on baby mine!

Family firsts

When Hudson was just ten days old, we took him to the Highline, one of our favorite spots in the city. My parents were in town, so we all met up for gelato and a sunset stroll.

It took two cabs and a little coordination at the time, but it felt so good to be back out that evening. Since then, we’ve introduced Hudson to brunch at Public, to Ryan Gosling at our favorite neighborhood movie theatre, to Sungold tomatoes city greenmarkets, and much more.

Check out baby mine for a few more recent photos…
Have a great weekend!

Guest Post: Eva of Sycamore Street Press

We’ve asked a few friends and fellow-bloggers to drop-in and share while we take some time to get to know this amazing little person, Hudson, whom we’ve just welcomed to the world. We’ll no doubt be dropping in here and on babymine.net from time to time, but we’re so grateful for these wonderful guest posts and hope you enjoy them as well.

I first “met” Eva last summer, drawn to Sycamore Street Press by her posts about her stay in New York (isn’t it fun to see your city through a visitor’s eyes), and then, soon after, really met Eva at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, where she and her husband were selling their gorgeous letterpress creations. Since then, Eva and Kirk have welcomed baby Ingrid and I’m happy Eva was willing to share some family travel inspiration…

Hello, I’m Eva. My husband Kirk and I own a little letterpress studio called Sycamore Street Press. We live and work in the mountains with our baby Ingrid. I love following the adventures of Ashley and Aron, and can’t wait to hear more about how their life and travels unfold with their new little one.

Growing up just minutes from the Pacific, the ocean was a normal part of life for me. I learned to swim before I learned to walk. Although I’ve lived in a land-locked state for years now, and have no intention of moving back to the coast, Kirk and I still try to make it back for a visit as often as we can. So last week, when we loaded everything up in the car to visit to our family in California, we took it for granted that Ingrid would fall in love with the beach. We imagined her bouncing up and down with excitement at the sight of the waves. Instead, the skeptical look on her face grew into a frown, then suddenly turned into tears as the water swished around her ankles. For the remainder of the outing, she wouldn’t let us set her down or even touch her feet to the sand. The following day, we opted to visit the aquarium instead of returning to the beach. She loved it.

Even as a baby, Ingrid already has such strong opinions. I’ve found that (surprise!) my favorite things aren’t always her favorite things. And you know what? I’m okay with that. I think. 🙂
