It’s been said that the pleasure derived from anticipating a vacation is actually greater than that which is experienced on the vacation. But I think that might be flipped during the young-child years. The anticipation stage is stressful: packing and planning, figuring out the logistics and the room configurations, getting vaccinations and stockpiling bug sprays and sunscreens… and asking oneself questions like: “can we all survive 26 hours of travel to get there?”
But once we were there, once we were in Bangkok, it was really just so joyful and wonderful! And it went by far too fast. For all that anticipation and travel—really, anticipation that goes back 10 years to our honeymoon, when Aron and I were in Thailand together—I wish I could have made it last longer.
So here’s the version where I do my best to savor every minute of our two weeks in Thailand—starting with Bangkok!
The blog took a bit of an unanticipated hiatus this week while some things on the backend got some long-overdue tweaks. I’m so ready to get back to it! I was just finishing up the first of the Thailand travelogues, so I’m looking forward to sharing (over-sharing?) our visit to Bangkok next week. Hope you’ll stick around!
In the meantime, here are a few more favorite photos from the UC Davis annual open house, Picnic Day. It had been 20 years since my first one. I can hardly believe it! Like going back in time… only with kids and without the plutonium.
We brought back these woven leather chairs from Bali a few years ago and, ever since sharing our living room, I routinely get asked for a source. So I wanted to share that a friend just emailed me to say that World Market has an outdoor version that comes in a pair. The material is flat woven weather-resistant wicker instead of leather or cloth, but they look awesome!
