Nearby, a Walnut grove

Last week, my parents-in-law took Hudson and me out to lunch in nearby Winters and we drove past acres of Walnut and Almond trees. The rows upon rows of trees were so pretty–even in the harsh midday light. We stopped in at one of the area’s growers and processors, Mariani Nuts, and they took home 10 pounds of shelled walnuts. Aron’s mom told me that she once brought home 100 pounds when both Aron and his sister were living at home. Can you imagine?

Won’t the trees be pretty in the spring?

A calendar for dad’s office

Aron just moved into his new office at work–which he described as a process of “picking up my Kaiser hat, Kaiser camel pack, and Kaiser lunch pail and moving down the hall.” Soon I’ll make sure he puts up a copy of the doctor typeface, but until then I was very pleased to send him back with a calendar full of family photos. It arrived, along with his new business cards, at the perfect moment.

He’s going to put it up in the exam room, so I thought it would be nice to be able to point out dates for return appointments and such and then–“Oh hey, have you seen my adorable one-year-old son and loving (clever) wife?” And who are we kidding… Aron would never write on an actual calendar. (Though this one comes with an acrylic frame and you can use dry-erase on it.)

It’s so pretty. I’m a little jealous.

As ever, Pinhole Press makes the most beautiful stationary products. We made this photo book for Hudson last year and used the site to work on a wedding album. I treasure our baby announcements and the Christmas cards we made last year, too, and we’ve bought framed photos for gifts.

Now that we have Hudson, I’ve fully come around to sending photo cards at the holidays. (Especially because I LOVE getting them.) These are a few of my favorite ones this year. Can you believe it’s time to think about this again?

West Elm Market (and some Friday links)

I was too late: I spotted these planters on Design*Sponge last week (don’t they look a lot like the ones I admired at Architectural Pottery?), but they have already sold out. Bah humbug.

Still, the search led me to about a dozen other things worth coveting at West Elm’s new store, West Elm Market, a curated collection of home essentials (planters, pots, dustbins, and the like) from big and small brands. Its selection reminds me a lot of that of a shop I used to love visiting in Williamsburg, Brook Farm General Store.

Here are just a few other things I’ve been thinking about:

The other best pots I’ve found (like those by Architectural Pottery) are the Case Study Planters at Modernica.
Is there an interesting story behind this sweet photo?
When the time comes to eat oysters in Tomales Bay, I’d like to stay here.
Diane Keaton is SO beautiful. I’ve heard great things about her new book, House

.
Nerdy math jokes.
I’ve worn my beloved AG jeans into the ground and need a new pair. Sort of intrigued by this roll-up version in my favorite cut, Stilt.

Finally, my mighty life list (100 things I want to do) is due today and I’m not finished! Quick, what are a couple of things you would put on a life list?? It’s not as easy as it first seems.

Have a great weekend!
