My friend Alexis just got back from Venice—one of the most magical places in the world—and brought home the best souvenirs. She reported, however, that she found the guidebooks to be a bit hit-or-miss when it came to shopping recommendations: “There was a lot to sift through, and some of the listings were out-of-date.”

So where should you look? Though she makes no claims about these being the very best, I trust that Alexis did her research.

Happy World Egg Day! Celebrated on the second Friday of October for nearly 20 years and in 32 countries—the holiday is a real thing.

In honor of the occasion, we took Hudson and Skyler out to one of our local farms—Pasture 42, in the beautiful Capay Valley—to meet the farmer and collect some of the lovely eggs we see for sale at our Saturday market.

Treehouses (& other off-the-beaten-path vacations)

Every now and then someone will recommend a new source of off-the-beaten path vacation rentals, and I’ll find myself whiling away an hour, lost in a spell of wanderlust, favorite-ing and pinn-ing special places we might want to visit one day when a real opportunity arrives.

Glamping Hub reached out to say that they just added a treehouse collection to their already unique and inspiring list of yurts, teepees, safari tents, A-frames, railcars, and (one of my favorites) campervans—and the scope is amazing. The treehouses run the gamut from basic to bizarre, rustic to luxury, but they’re all pretty incredible.
