Have a Relaxing Weekend! (& Friday Links)

Summer break is on the horizon and it’s the last weekend before the last week of school! We’ve wrapped up swim lessons and baseball games, running club and school assemblies—and suddenly we’re talking about fireworks and beach days. I’m feeling the need to sit down and make a summer to-do wishlist before it all goes too fast!

Crowdsourcing: New York City

It’s been nearly 7 years since we lived in New York, and more than a few since our last visit, so I’m really looking forward to spending some time in the city when school is out. We’re taking the kids (or rather I’m flying on a red-eye with them to meet Aron, who will already be in town for a conference—wish me luck), and I’m especially excited about sharing it all with them. We have decided that we are each going to come up with our top three things we want to do (or eat), so that everyone’s priorities are met—but my list is a whole lot longer. So far, Skyler wants to ride in a taxi and Hudson wants to take the subway and see a skyscraper, so I’m thinking it’s going to be easy to be the one steering the ship.

I’ve just been brainstorming—I’ll pare it down soon—but I have a working list that I’ll post below. We have two nights of babysitting for grownup nights out! Then we’ll be in Montauk for a few days, if you have tips.

Still, because it’s been so long, I know I’m missing some new musts—and some of my old ones (like the pork and watermelon salad at Fatty Crab), are no longer an option. What do you think should be on a must-do, must-eat, must-shop list for New York (with kids) these days? The options are dizzying!
