I composed about ten different long goodbye-New-York posts in my head, but after saying goodbye for so long… goodbye to the city, farewell to our little apartment, and “we’ll miss you” to beloved friends, it feels like it’s time to start saying hello.
First up: Hello, Bali!
It was a long 37 hours of travel but we’re finally here. And though the word barely describes this view from our back porch, it’s beautiful.
We said farewell to our wonderful babysitter Monday night and then to our favorite restaurant in the city–Diner, under the Willamsburg Bridge. Aron first went when he came to the city in 2001 to interview for medical school, and then sought it out with a vague recollection (“it was under a bridge… I don’t know the name”) when we moved here in 2007. The ever-changing menu (the only constant is the burger) is scribbled on the paper tablecloth, and never disappoints. This time, we started at Diner and ended at Marlow & Sons–the sister restaurant next door–for dessert.
A good friend advised us to try the eclairs at Dessert Club, Chikalicious–the site of our favorite banana cupcakes–before we go. I have to admit, I’m fairly in love with eclairs, and while Aron would order “un Pain Chocolat” at nearly every bakery in we passed in Paris, I would ask for un Eclair au Café. These are nothing like those eclairs, but they are completely delicious! Each is piped to order, giving them a crisp outer crust that is so good with the rich custard filling. My favorite was gone before I could take a photo, but I can attest that the chocolate is rich and wonderful.
