Last week, when I shared ideas for halloween costumes for the whole family, Joy commented that she was looking for good ideas for her baby’s first halloween that wouldn’t break the bank. I immediately thought of these onesies, and then recalled this incredible Instagram series I got lost in for the better part of an hour one day!
Laura Izumikawa posts photos of her baby Joey Marie Choi in various guises during naptime. In sweet, dreamy states, Joey takes on every role from a sushi chef or an olympian to a Wes Anderson character.
They’re such incredible, creative little disguises. What a funny endeavor! Here are some favorites…
But no single image is quite as incredible as it is to watch the Behind the Shot posts, where Laura shares video clips of her process dressing up her sleeping baby.
I remember working so hard to get Hudson to fall asleep, only to sometimes wake him up with the creak of a floorboard. Or walking around New York to get him to sleep, only to have him know the instant I started fake-walking before crossing a busy intersection. I was amazed just watching baby Joey put herself to sleep!
And yet I also recognize that floppy, pudgy little arm that signals complete, deep sleep. That’s pure bliss.
Some favorites from the behind-the-shot posts…
Behind the shot: I was trying really hard not to bust out laughing while doing this one. Kept hearing the word "Shawing!" in my head. ? Thanks @hanna.baik for lending us this flannel shirt! It was perfect! Today she didn't need the ocean music again. Think I've finally programmed her to sleep at the same time every day. Yesssss. Well here's hoping. Man…now I wanna go watch this film again. So many good quotes haha. #waynesworld
Behind the shot: Joey is ¾ Korean, ⅛ Chinese and ⅛ Japanese so we've been confusing her with all kinds of asian haha. I'm hoping she will grow up to be proud of her mixed heritage but also not let it limit or inhibit her. It's not your race or color that defines you in the end but your heart and your character. | photo & video shot on iPhone 6, #jinbei by @atelierizumi
Behind the shot: We didn't get to see the #VMAs last night but I'm pretty sure the red carpet was no joke. Whenever I think of iconic red carpet looks, this one of Bjork always comes to mind. Grandma bought Joey this vest a few months ago so I thought I'd give it a go. Tried really hard not to laugh at this one though. Hope @bjork sees this! If you don't know who she is, SHAME! Haha jk. | On a side note, thank you so much for all of your kind messages all weekend. I tried to spend an hour replying back to everyone but I didn't even make a dent in my inbox. So sorry! Please know that we are so incredibly grateful to you especially those who have shared with me your personal stories and have given me encouraging words. They are GOLD to me. God bless you! | Credit: Joey's bow is from @alittleladyshop, ocean sounds are from @Spotify and photo/video shot on iPhone 6
