Caipirinhas (& Friday Links)

The Olympics are starting! Loving the idea of muddling up some cachaça tonight and trying one of these three recipes for Brazil’s national cocktail, the caipirinha. I showed some favorite Olympic clips to Hudson yesterday, hoping to get him excited about some of the events, and found myself feeling all emotional. It really is amazing to think of how much hard work and big dreams come together for these athletes in these weeks.

Will you be watching the games?

Have a great weekend! Some links of note…

Bears are being spotted more frequently at populated beaches in Lake Tahoe. The videos are cute—but also worrisome: it’s symptomatic of our ongoing drought, and forest rangers will often remind us, “a fed bear is a dead bear.”

“I want them to know that it’s never been just about the Benjamins; it’s about the Tubmans too. And I want them to help do their part to ensure that America is a place where every single child can make of her life what she will.”  Obama talks about being a feminist role model for his daughters.

Should “spunk” go the way of “bossy“?

I’m obsessed with the NYT mini puzzles. 39 seconds is my current record.

What if high school were more like kindergarten? (Though unfortunately, it seems, kindergarten is starting to look more like high school.)

We need more books like The Snowy Day.

(This made me think of an episode titled “Babies Buying Babies” from This American Life—I think about it all the time.)

Consistency is the key to all kinds of ways of getting your baby to sleep.

A glass-bottomed walkway has opened on a Chinese mountain—4,600 feet up. Would you walk across it?

The most charming display of bottle caps.

Fawning (pun intended) over this sweet little sweater!

I got an early copy of this children’s book and it’s fantastic—Hudson and I both love it. It’s a bit longer than your average picture book and the writing is really sweet.

Instagram Stories (versus Snapchat). What do you think? Personally, I find it to be overwhelming and the whole shebang sort of makes me want to hang up the phone!

Except of course to share these bright little eyes getting a morning song—2-1/2 years!
